NWPC of Metro St. Louis

The National Women's Political Caucus of Metro St. Louis recruits, trains, and supports pro-choice women candidates for elected and appointed offices at all levels of government regardless of party affiliation. The NWPC's goal is to achieve political parity by the year 2020.

The Missouri Women's Political Caucus endorses statewide candidates, including Secretary of State Robin Carnahan who saw a huge victory in 2008, winning re-election by a margin of 26.2 percent. The NWPC recently endorsed her 2010 U.S. Senate race. In another key race for 2010, State Auditor Susan Montee is seeking re-election.

Donnelly's Priorities Include Tackling Tobacco Use and Obesity

A third of pregnant women on Medicaid in Missouri smoke cigarettes, says Margaret Donnelly, Missouri Director of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). She is committed to improving the state's rankings on both tobacco and obesity. She said this may be the first generation that has a reduced life span due to obesity.

A long-time Caucus member, Donnelly now supervises 1,800 employees in three divisions. DHSS responsibilities include inspecting hospitals and child care centers and supervising programs that allow seniors and people with disabilities to live independently.

SAVE THE DATE: The next meeting of the Caucus is tentatively set for Sunday, April 18, from 2 to 4.

Holiday Party Raises Funds for Candidates

The Caucus joined with the National Organization for Women to kick off the holidays with a festive Dec. 13 event. Dozens of women enjoyed bidding on jewelry, purses and scarves, including jewelry donated by Robin Carnahan, and a raffle for a special Obama campaign pin donated by Sen. Claire McCaskill. Thanks to Councilwoman and Missouri Senate candidate Barbara Fraser and her husband Norman Jones for hosting.
