THE FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT BY NWPC-Metro
St.
Louis CHAIR TIFFANY REYNOLDS:
Harriett Woods will be remembered for her dedication to women and
public service. Harriett was a great friend to the Women’s
Political Caucus; a former president of the National Women’s Political
Caucus, and the founder of the St.
Louis chapter. During her committed activity
with the caucus, Harriett always encouraged more women to become civically
involved.
Harriett made a personal impact on many of us members. Many of
our members since have been elected to political office while others became
more actively involved in politics. Because of Harriett, the number of
women office holders have dramatically increased—not only nationally, but
in the State of Missouri
as well.
During the past year while battling with leukemia, Harriett continued
to support the Caucus and our endorsed candidates for she never gave up on her
passion—and her passion shall never give up on her. We will
remember Harriett and will pay homage to her dedication, wisdom, and
strength.

Chair NWPC-Metro St.

Statement of National Women's Political Caucus on the death of Harriett Woods
Harriett
Woods June 2, 1927-
February 8, 2007
“You
can stand tall without standing on someone.
You can be a victor without having victims.”
The National Women’s Political Caucus is deeply
saddened by the
loss of our former president and leader Harriet Woods. Harriet was an
inspirational leader who
embodied both the highest ideals of feminism and the pragmatic realities of
politics. She mentored literally
hundreds of women across the nation and was integral to the electoral
successes
of what came to be known as Year of the Woman. Harriet helped to organize
and channel our
collective outrage at the treatment of Anita Hill during the Clarence Thomas
confirmation hearings into constructive action.
Her energy, passion, candor, and wit will be sorely
missed.
