Women Running in 2004
There are several women to watch in the 2004 elections. JoAnn Karll is the only pro-choice woman running in the August primary for the 3rd Congressional District seat being vacated by Dick Gephardt. Claire McCaskill is challenging incumbent Bob Holden in the primary race for Governor. Former Secretary of State Bekki Cook is seeking the Democratic nomination for Lt. Governor, and Robin Carnahan is running for Secretary of State.
The Caucus will endorse women candidates at its May 20 meeting at the Clayton Community Center. Endorsement forms have been mailed to dozens of women candidates running for the state legislature. Four women filed for seats in the Missouri Senate: Sen. Maida Coleman, 5; Jeanne Kirkton, District 15; Lydia Lewis, District 15; and Mindy Primm, District 23. House candidates include: Rep. Yaphett El-Amin, District 57 Jeanette Mott-Oxford, District 59 Holly Boykins, District 60 Rep. Connie LaJoyce Johnson, District 61 Rep. Robin Wright Jones, District 63 Sandra Chance, District 63 Rachel Storch, District 64 Marlene Terry, District 69 Rep. Esther Hill Haywood, District 71 Maria Chappell-Nadal and Sandi Colquitt, Distirct 72 Rep. Margaret Donnelly, District 73 Rep. Juanita Head Walton, District 81 Marilyn Morton, Distirct 87 Dena Ladd, District 87 Rep. Sue Schoemehl, District 100
